史提芬·伊宏思在美國喬治亞州的阿特蘭大市出生，大學時期前往伊利諾伊州東北部惠頓市的私立基督教惠頓學院（Wheaton College）升學。之后轉(zhuǎn)往耶魯大學進修，修讀哲學碩士及哲學博士。
