早年生活

瑪吉·史密斯 在1934年于英格蘭埃塞克斯郡 伊爾福德區(qū) （ 英語 ： Municipal Borough of Ilford ） 出生。她母親瑪格麗特·赫頓·利特爾（Margaret Hutton Little）在蘇格蘭格拉斯哥出生，任職秘書；父親納撒尼爾·史密斯（Nathaniel Smith）在泰恩-威爾郡紐卡素出生，在牛津大學(xué)任職病理學(xué)者 ，雙胞胎哥哥分別叫阿利斯泰爾（Alistair）和伊恩（Ian）。她在牛津高中（Oxford High School）讀中學(xué)。

瑪吉·史密斯與羅伯特·斯蒂芬斯（Robert Stephens）在1967年結(jié)婚，在1974年離婚；在1975年與貝弗利·克羅斯（Beverley Cross）結(jié)婚。克羅斯在1998年逝世。

瑪吉·史密斯在牛津劇場（Oxford Playhouse）表演劇場處女作，在1960年代開始在皇家國家劇院（Royal National Theatre）工作。她憑1965年電影《奧賽羅》（莎士比亞名作）飾演Desdemona，與著名演員勞倫斯·奧利維爾有對(duì)手戲，獲得首個(gè)奧斯卡金像獎(jiǎng)提名。

瑪吉·史密斯在1969年電影《布羅迪小姐的青春》（ The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie ）飾演蘇格蘭異教徒教師，榮獲奧斯卡最佳女主角獎(jiǎng)，是她首個(gè)奧斯卡金像獎(jiǎng)；1978年的電影《加州套房》（ California Suite ）使她獲得了1979年的奧斯卡最佳女配角獎(jiǎng)。
