生平

他母親是演員Josephine (née Messum)，父親是建筑工人William Albert Deakins。他小時(shí)候喜歡繪畫。后來進(jìn)入一家藝術(shù)設(shè)計(jì)學(xué)院（Bath School of Art and Design）學(xué)習(xí)形象設(shè)計(jì)。在那里他對攝影產(chǎn)生了興趣，并對此有很好的天賦。后來又進(jìn)入國家電影和電視學(xué)院（National Film and Television School）學(xué)習(xí)。

1991年12月11日，他與劇本指導(dǎo)Isabella James Purefoy Ellis結(jié)婚。
