簡史

此學(xué)會創(chuàng)于1865年1月16日，首任主席由奧古斯都·德·摩根出任。其聚會最早在倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院舉行，但隨后便遷至皮卡迪里的伯林頓府。學(xué)會的初期活動包括演講與出版一份期刊。

美國數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)會在1888年創(chuàng)立時，以倫敦?cái)?shù)學(xué)學(xué)會為其模板。

學(xué)會在它創(chuàng)立一個世紀(jì)后的1965年獲得了皇家特許狀。在1998年，學(xué)會為因應(yīng)本身的擴(kuò)張而從伯林頓府遷至布盧姆茨伯里的 De Morgan House。

學(xué)會出版四種套書： Monographs 、 Lecture Notes 、 Student Texts ，并與美國數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)會合作出版 History of Mathematics 叢書。它也與俄羅斯科學(xué)院及Turpion公司合作出版四套譯叢： Russian Mathematical Surveys 、 Izvestiya: Mathematics 與 Sbornik:Mathematics ，并與美國數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)會合作出版譯叢 Transactions of the Moscow Mathematical Society 。
